Unemployment

YoungMinds Vs No Work – Fight for your future

What’s the problem?

Having no work can make us feel worthless, undervalued and that we have no future. We feel like we have no purpose, structure or money. So many of us are struggling to find work and this can make us feel really down, depressed and anxious.

The high levels of young people not in employment, education or training, is storing up a health time-bomb that is waiting to explode. We think it is terrible that a generation of young people is growing up in a world where unemployment is the norm, not the exception.

There are more than one million young people not in education, employment or training and these young people are particularly vulnerable to mental health problems.

What does YoungMinds Vs No Work want?

  • We want the Government to create more opportunities for young people to build their skills and experience.
  • We want more apprenticeships, internships and opportunities to do voluntary work created which will give young people work experience, structure and purpose.
  • We want training in mental health awareness for Jobcentre staff and all those who come into contact with young people who are not in education, employment or training so they understand the impact of not having anything to do and no money.
  • We want more places for young people to go for support and help if they are struggling with their mental and emotional health as a result of not being in education, employment or training.
