Your mates matter!
Tuesday 10th February was Safer Internet Day. This year’s theme was 'Let's create a better internet together'. We asked young activists: "Can you show you support your friends online with a virtual high-five?"
YoungMindsVs activists encouraged young people to look out for their friends online, to make the internet a more supportive place.
Send a high-five
We spread support messages online with virtual high-fives.
Our campaign followed the style of popular social media campaigns like the ALS Ice bucket campaign, where you can nominate your friends to join in and take part.
…because #MatesMatter
Facebook, Twitter and Instagram users took a picture of their hand in a high-five motion, with a friend’s name/twitter handle written on it and the hashtag #matesmatter. They then posted it on social media with a message, tagging their friends to encourage them to share and pass on the high-five.
For it to be really successful we needed to spread the high-five as far as possible, reaching as many young people online as we could.
We also used the hashtag #matesmatter to promote the new Talking Taboos film which launched on the 10th Feb.
How to send your high-five
Support your friend online:
-
Write their name or username on the palm of your hand
-
Also write #MatesMatter on your palm
-
Take a pic of your hand
-
Upload to social media with something like the statement below:
“I’m looking out for …………… #SID2015 because #MatesMatter @YoungMindsVs @YoungMindsUK” -
Make sure you tag your friend
-
And send your high-five!
YoungMindsVs will RT/Share your post.
Your mates matter... remember to support them online.
